The boys and I visit Barnes and Noble periodically, and last month one of my children picked out a Daniel Tiger book, “Happy Love Day, Daniel Tiger!” The book tells about all the different ways friends and family say I love you to each other. At the end of the book, Daniel’s mom shows her love by making a heart-shaped rainbow vegetable pizza. This became our “Love Day” activity this Valentine’s Day.
In the book, Daniel and his mom make the rainbow heart pizza using tomatoes, orange peppers, broccoli, and eggplant; however, we decided to use pepperoni, orange peppers, pineapple, and broccoli. The choice is yours, be creative!
Roll out the pizza dough and form a heart shape. Spread tomato sauce and sprinkle cheese onto the pizza.
Then add the toppings in rainbow order. (ROYGBIV – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet – Extra points if you include all colors) The kids loved helping with this step!
You’re ready to put the pizza in the oven. That’s it, pretty simple. Let it cool and enjoy as a family – just as Daniel says, “The best part of heart-shaped pizza is… eating it with my family on Love Day!”
